Lemon Drop: drop-in free classes at the new lululemon Showroom.

Are you a lululemon fanatic? I’m becoming one.  Lululemon is a company successfully striving to create the components which facilitate healthier, happier lives. They have a cult-like following for their yoga inspired apparel and Nashville is lucky enough to have just scored a lululemon Showroom.

Ok- apparently, I am just SUCH a capitalist. While sitting down with the key leaders of the Nashville Showroom, I kept waiting for them to say something like, “and then we charge money for….” or “by having an exclusive with us….”  but no.  Total grassroots, feel good, make people happy company.  So, it makes sense that it’s a Canadian company.  I hope I just made you laugh.  Lululemon is based in my personal dream world of Vancouver.  The sense I get from Vancouver is carried over to the way lululemon drives it’s business forward: from the ground up with through good will, a strong ear, and a great product.

The lululemon Showroom, located above J McLaughlin at the Hill Center in Green Hills, offers a retail selection of the core line as well as an impressive amount of FREE classes. Each Saturday from 11-12 the Showroom has a free yoga class appropriate for all levels, with rotating instructors.  Additionally, for the month of December, a Kettle Bells class is being offered on the 8th and 15th from 10-11 a.m.  See website for more details.  The 16th bring us a Moms Night Out with shopping and treats from 6-7 and then free yoga from 7-8.  Smartly, the next night is their Mens Shopping Night from 5-8 (so fill out your wish list on the 16th and he can come buy the next night!)  Stroller Strides, a moms with strollers based fitness class, wraps up the week with a free class on Friday the 18th from 10-11.

The two gals who got the Showroom started are Molly Watson and Courtney Schoon. Molly worked for lululemon in the DC area and was hooked.  They met at a BBQ sponsored by the Owen School at Vandy (their husbands are enrolled) Courtney was convinced by Molly to join into the lululemon world.  Showroom retail hours are just 12-6 on Wed- Sat because these girls are all over the place building bridges with all the great studios in this town.  They were off to a Zumba class after talking to me.  And, true to their “we are all in this world together” philosophy, I need to mention the two other women they work with to make Showroom run smoothly: Blair Rowan and Sarah Armstrong.  They know their product; they have a passion for health and activity; they are dedicated to listening to local studios for what they need in a product partner and fulfilling those wishes.

Lululemon is a company with a strong ear for their customers and the studios that carry their line. Their designers are constantly striving to improve their product based on feedback.  $98 for a pair of yoga pants may make you pause; but, I can attest: I LOVE them. They have stayed in great shape through many washings, workouts, and weekend wear (just don’t sit in a ruched seat…the straw bits will stick to your backside!)  Another pair is on my wish list.  Honey, are you reading???

One last thought, I asked Courtney and Holly to pick the best “go with everything pant.” You know, the one you can workout in, wear to the basketball game and then to run errands.  Their pick: the Groove Pant.  Hmmmm, that’s the same one I picked when we wrote about yoga pants being the new jean.  Validation.
