I know the headline to this blog makes no sense unless you are aware of the fabulous magazine THE WEEK. If you are uniformed, as I was, you need to know about this magazine and website!
I know, this is a Style blog but here’s my dilemma. I don’t fall for the whole “looking good” is all that matters crap. I mean, it does matter. It matters a ton as your visual impression and style choices impact the world around you and influence your abilities to navigate within it. I know it kinda stinks. But it’s true. There is more to Style though and I’m a whole package kinda gal: mind, body, spirit.
Back to my dilemma. We turn off the TV for the whole summer in our house. And our school is out this week. It’s a hard two week detox but then it’s ok. However, I become a far less informed citizen when Summer comes. I read more…but in the beach novel arena. I don’t sit on my computer perusing news websites in the summer and sunscreen and newspapers don’t mix well. I really take a media break. But, I still want to be informed. I want to add to the conversation at social gathering and not simply be in shock over my lack of knowledge of current events which happened last Summer on more than one occasion!
So, I will read THE WEEK. This magazine breaks down “the best of US and Foreign Press into 44 pages.” Their tagline is “All you need to know about everything that matters.” The magazine covers articles from the whole range of political opinions and is just $.99 a copy when you subscribe. 44 pages…I can get through 44 pages. This subscription also makes a great gift.
A great article to read from last week’s magazine is this one about journalist Lenore Skenazy who caused quite a storm last year when she let her nine year old ride the NY subway alone. Read it, it’s pretty interesting! And…a great conversation piece!
I’m ready for my TV break and I’m ready to be more informed. Mind, body, spirit. This is going to be a great Summer:-)
