“What is a tomato?  Is it a fruit or a vegetable?  No one knows.  It’s a uniter not a divider!”- from the video clip below.

Nashvillians love festivals as witnessed by the incredible success of the Tomato Art Festival in East Nashville.  In the world of festivals, the Tomato Art Fest is relatively new.  It was started nine years ago by the quirky and wondrous Meg MacFayden, co-owner of the Art and Invention Gallery in East Nashville.  The other half of the quirky and wondrous Meg is her husband Brett, equally as creative and fun loving.  For those of you that watch the CBS Sunday Morning Show with Charles Osgood, Brett wants to be the next Bill Geist.  That pretty much says it all.  Their vision of the festival was a friendly gathering celebrating life, arts and community.  They absolutely got it right.  Just to get a sense of what’s in store, watch this youtube video from the event: www.youtube.com/watch?v=8JO57KsS0HU

The Tomato Arts Festival celebrates all things tomato from the pen and ink drawing of the plump delicious Bradley to the shaken and stirred Bloody Mary.

It started out as a small and intimate affair with several hundred making their way to 5 points in East Nashville. Now, this gathering exceeds 5,000 people!

I LOVE EAST NASHVILLE.  As my husband and I always say when we venture across the bridge, “Bohemia is alive and well in East Nashville; And, thank goodness.”
