I took my first studio art class as a sophomore at Vanderbilt University in 1987. Professor Michael Aurbach handed everyone a roll of masking tape and asked that we create a pair of shoes from it.   We had two days to complete the assignment.

I tried, I really did.  Regrettably, while I envisioned something along the lines of Louboutin, the result resembled a used pair of Tom’s.  Conversely, my friend Bret MacFadyen, who was also in his first art class, returned with a pair of runway-ready lace-up sandals befitting a Roman centurion.  I was humbled and a bit discouraged.

Bret has gone on to do wonderful things in the art world, including founding the Art and Invention Gallery in East Nashville.  My enthusiasm for all things visual prompted me to start an art blog in order to chronicle and share my interest.

Today I present the exceptional work of Ali Cavanaugh.  You can see more of her radiant paintings at www.artstormer.com.
