For the last installment of our February Wedding Wednesdays, we wanted to talk with an expert about how best to personalize a wedding and make it your own. We also wondered what is what really like, being a wedding planner. And yes, we wanted gorgeous pictures, as they make us swoon.
We caught up with Sara Lubow Fried. As owner of Fête Nashville, she can boast being the 2012 Winner of “Best of” Wedding Planners for TheKnot.com and WeddingChannel.com. Fete Nashville was the only planner in Tennessee to receive such a distinction. TheKnot touches 8 out of 10 brides in America, so this is a huge honor.

Sara Fried
By the way, “Fête,” French for day of celebration, festival, or elaborate party, rhymes with “pet” — just in case you didn’t know.
Sara’s background in design, combined with her love of “all things wedding,” ensures an extremely personalized, unique and unified wedding. Not only is Sara uber-organized (she claims it’s part of her DNA), but she is also a visionary when it comes to planning and designing weddings. Sara says that many of her designs, followed on sites such as TheKnot.com, become current trends by the next year. You go girl!
What is your favorite part of being a wedding designer?
Of course, I love the final product, but I love that I offer an experience that’s more than simply “wedding planner.” I will be your friend through this process. I will come to your home and always make everything convenient for you. I will keep you on task and budget and take the stress off your plate. I get to know your family and make sure everyone feels like they are part of the process. I probably could pass for a family therapist at this point!
I understand this is your day and I want it to reflect YOUR vision. Your wedding weekend will be fun, memorable, full of love and special touches… and most of all, stress-free!
Do you have a philosophy when designing a wedding?
I love to capture the essence of the bride and groom as a couple. An important part of the planning process is getting to know the couple and their family, so I can tailor each element of the weekend to fit their personalities.
Yes, I’ll give you the “WOW!” factor when you walk in a room, but what people remember about a great wedding is really getting to know more about the bride and groom as a couple – their style, likes, loves. There are so many opportunities to bring out their personality through music, décor, ambiance, midnight snacks – even the fonts on all the signage!
Clients hire me because every single detail that is rented, purchased, custom designed, printed or displayed is thoughtfully chosen with the overall design in mind. I design many of the elements myself, in addition to collaborating with the most respected professionals in the industry.
And, as promised, those swoon-worthy pictures. These reflect Sara’s ability to design elements that capture the couple’s personality. Enjoy!
CUSTOM MONOGRAM: We used this custom logo for Megan and Kevin on everything in various materials and textures and in unexpected ways. Everything at this wedding was personalized for this cozy, southern affair.

DESIGN ELEMENT: We chose this flowing, calligraphic design element for Katie and Daniel’s wedding. This sophisticated couple wanted a modern wedding with touches of vintage glamour… It’s beautiful to see one element interpreted in so many different ways!

THEME: We created a truly southern ambiance for Jill and Jonah, a music-loving couple who wanted to share a bit of Nashville with their guests. We used this music theme to create a taste of true southern hospitality!

SEASON: This color palette, inspired by an Indian Summer, was the perfect fit for Kim and Coye’s fall wedding. It’s fun to pick a season or a theme that has elements you already like, but don’t feel like you have to stay true to the exact colors or details. Kim wanted pumpkins added in, so we added pumpkins!
