The Caldwell Collection is one of Nashville’s most beloved institutions. Thus, when Liza and I received an email from Ellen Caldwell, wanting to introduce to us her new floral designer, Jessica Gainey, it got our immediate attention.
For those of you that are fans of the Caldwell sisters and the store they began together, the Caldwell Collection, I don’t have to convince you that both Cissy and Ellen, with their deep Southern roots, have a style and panache that’s uniquely their own. Just give them a plate of fruit and they’ll make it look spectacular. Both Caldwells have a keen eye for objects of beauty, especially when it comes to original art. In all candor, The Caldwell Collection measures up to any boutique not only in Middle Tennessee, but in the entire Southeast. Consider their discoveries: they were early adopters of incredible artists like Ben Caldwell and Tom Darnell (please click that link…you will be BLOWN away!) and they continue to fill the shelves with gorgeous crystal, Italian pottery and unusual gift items at multiple price points. When the Caldwell Collection says they have remarkable gifts for everyday life, they do.
Cissy has gone on to pursue other interests, but Ellen continues the family tradition with passion!
With Ellen’s endorsement of Jessica Gainey’s floral talents, I knew Jessica had to be fantastic. Let’s face it, she had already been vetted by the best: Jessica has been a floral designer for over 15 years and most of her career she spent working at Maitlands (let’s take a moment to sigh that it is no longer with us….). For large jobs, Jess comes to your home for a personal consultation. She works with all types of flowers: dried, fresh and permanent floral arrangements. When I met Jess, what struck me was her sense of ease when she talked about her work and her experience. It’s a confidence you acquire only when you’ve been around the block a couple of times. Jess clearly has put in her sweat and tears when it comes to flowers.

This compelling offer came my way: would I like Jess to create an arrangement or two for my home for the Whitland Avenue Home Tour? As usual, when offered something FABULOUS that gets to benefit this BLOG and myself, I screamed with glee, er nonchalantly said, “Yes, thanks.” With the home tour deadline now at about two days and counting, the idea of having not just any professional, but Jessica Gainey, do some gorgeous arrangements was TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE.

We agreed on two locations: the entrance between my dining room and family room and a small arrangement for the sideboard in the dining room. I gave her my Grandmother’s gorgeous silver vase for the flowers on the sideboard.
Next week, in addition to The Rest of the Story: Chair Therapy Part 2, you’ll get the added bonus of seeing these exquisite arrangements by Jessica Gainey. I can’t believe I’m going to let this phrase leave my lips, but it’s not too early to start booking Jessica for your Christmas parties. Imagine the possibilities: wreaths, garlands and more!
There-I’ve said it. Christmas will be here before we know it!
