I use my silver quite a bit; the pattern is Chantilly and I have pieces that have been in my family for five generations. But it’s not an everyday event. With some recent purchases, though, we now are using silver – just a different set – each and every day.
I was at my friend Beth’s house a few weeks ago and I realized that her silverware drawer was actually filled with silver. We were about to eat burgers and she was grabbing for the actual silver. I questioned the fancy utensils and she said “Oh, you know Roger, as in R. Higgins Designs, he picked those up for me somewhere. Probably the flea market. But they are silverplate and now my everyday stuff.” I have to say that I think the burger and salad tasted better with this utensil nod to the past.
I instantly wanted that same glamour for my everyday meals and with my morning coffee. So, I went on Ebay and I bid on two sets of vintage silverplate utensils and now my drawer is full as well. I needed some new flatware and I love having these. Both orders, including shipping and 2 wooden boxes – one 57 pieces and the other 66 pieces- were a combined $123.01. Now I have enough for 24 people and I don’t care if these go in the dishwasher.
So, if you are looking for a way to make each of your meals a bit more special, I highly suggest either Ebay or a trip to the Nashville Flea Market! If you do this, just know, your guests will notice. And they, too, may think your meals are just that much better.
To search Ebay, search for “silverplate set” and you’ll be amazed how many there are to choose from.
