This is my promised follow-up to a post from six weeks ago when I had just started at Momshell Fitness. I hope this inspires you!

Momshell definition: “The key to being a Momshell… is ditching the frump for the fabulous.”- source Madison.
My husband asked in passing the other day, “How long have we been married?” I had to think about it, “Um, 12 years this May.” He responds, “You’ve never looked better.”
Yes, I married a good one. He’s not one to dole out compliments on a daily basis. I actually was a bit bowled over. He then said, “That boot camp you’re doing is really working.” He knows I’ve been working hard and this all boils down to one big Thank You to one woman: Beth Roth, owner of Momshell Fitness. Her motto is: Fit Happens Here. Her workouts are hard, but as she says, she’s paid to be hard. And, I wore two dresses this past weekend that I’ve never been able to wear before without Spanx. Spanx free is pretty nice… Here’s what I’ve been doing:
I’ve been getting to her 6:30AM Tuesday / Thursday boot camp and she’s been putting the small group of us through some drills. We start off with a 5 minute cardio and then we leap into a resistance circuit. We do 3 passes through the circuit, with 6-8 stations each and then we usually go outside.
Outside is where is gets really tough. She likes to talk about that anaerobic state. I call it the “I might throw up” state, but it works. My overview of outside work is: a few short bursts, usually one that is extra hard, and some more cardio with resistance. She loves frog leaps, reindeer pulls and elevator jumps. Survival running, high skips, lunges and squats are favorites as well. To learn what all these are, make a reservation to come to a class. I will tell you that as much as I hate that anaerobic state, I find myself craving it now…..
Momshell Fitness has boot camp classes throughout the day and evening classes as well. Momshell offers Zumba classes most nights and they are tons of fun and the classes max out at about 10 people so you’ll never feel overwhelmed. By the way, Zumba is hard, but you really can go at your own pace. I love it. See momshellfitness.com for more information on all the class offerings, including belly dancing boot camp and 30 minute intense sessions offered at lunch time. The studio is located at 2907 12th Avenue – where Las Paletas USED to be. Don’t expect a plush high-end studio. Do expect results. Here are some quotes from some StyleBlueprint readers who have been hitting Momshell since I first mentioned it 6 weeks ago:
“I’ve been going to the Core Values Class when I have a chance at lunchtime. It is easy to pop over there and get 30 minutes of core exercise in – which is good for me and keeps me from eating a big lunch on those days! Beth is great, and the Core Values Class gives me 30 minutes of focus on just my core. I don’t get that from my trainer – and I get bored doing core by myself. I feel so much better on the days on go!” – Jennifer Boyd Baldock
“Momshell: Makes by butt sore, my quads ache, and my biceps tremble, all while filling my need for girl time with other moms just like me. I can get a fantastic, body changing workout while chatting about school projects, sports, dinner, work, laundry, and all the other mundane tasks we deal with daily. It’s an incredible, worthwhile, guilt-free one hour vacation I get to take a few times a week while Beth whips my body into shape in time for summer..without putting a dent into our bank account.” – Amy Cannon (she’s actually been going longer than I have!)
“I’ve been at Momshell Fitness for a month and I can already tell a difference. I also love that she is flexible — for example, she didn’t charge me today when I missed b/c my son was sick and is fine with me bringing my kids with me if I need to this summer. But she does not let her clients get away with anything… when I am there, she works my butt off! She is a total pro and knows what she is doing.” – Danica Jefferson
As Amy mentioned, Momshell is pretty darn cheap. I buy 12 packages at a time for just $125. That’s little more than $10 per class. I’m also doing a personal training session on Fridays with Danica and we split the $42/hour rate. We just added a 3rd person so that class is just $14 from my budget.
Summer is coming and Beth knows summer is hard as your little ones are not at school. Bring them. Outdoor workouts are at Sevier Park – which has a playground. Inside her studio has a TV, as a last ditch solution. And Beth is organizing two weeks of fun and fit camps for kids, called Camp Kid Fit, where kids can learn about staying fit and eating well through fun activities. To find out more, click here.
I think Michelle Obama needs to be forwarded this post and come and see how Beth is empowering moms and kids. Anyone have an in??
Come on ladies, get your fit on at Momshell Fitness. All you have to lose is inches.

From reader Jennifer Hillen:
You don't have to be a mom to attend Momshell, but I certainly hope to still be attending when I am a mom! I've been going to Beth's boot camps for about four months and now I can't live without them! I came to her with a goal in mind: my wedding on March 20. Beth cares so much about her clients' goals that she made every effort to make sure I was happy with the way I looked for the big day. Let me tell you: I was MORE than happy and received tons of compliments from family and friends! She also did a special surprise Bachelorette Boot Camp for me the week of the wedding, complete with champagne toast – see, she likes to have fun and indulge every once in a while, just like the rest of us. The workouts are hard but they are actually fun and I look forward to going. Beth and Momshell Fitness are amazing!!!
That was going to be my question… as a graduate student and non-Mom: would my friends and I feel out of place at Momshell Fitness?
Not at all! There are a couple of 20 somethings that workout with her! She just sticks to women in her boot camps. She is tough and I think you would like it. Plus, I'd get to see you! And you know you can't beat the price! Zumba at 6PM is really fun and will make you sweat – A lot! And they have just started incorporating weights into the routines so I think you would like that. Plus, if you have a big enough group (6 or so) she'll do a class just for you:-)
