I did it. I got a bikini wax. I know most of you have done this, but I was filled with some serious fear. And now, I can join the ranks of those who wax. Here is how it went down (forgive the pun).

I’d been thinking it over for months: to wax or not to wax. I wanted to, but each day the need fell to the bottom of my To Do list. Then, Wednesday night before Spring break, I’m complaining that I have yet to do anything about “the situation”. My friend looks up a number and writes it down for me. 615-522-0070. “Cornelia. She’s in the office building where Tulip Tree is on White Bridge Road/ Call her!” So, what did I do? Put it off.
Saturday morning rolled around and our plans were to leave town that afternoon. I called the number and Cornelia’s husband, who mans the front desk, answered. They could fit me in at 12:30 and did I want regular or Brazillian? OUCH – ummmmm, regular. Now imagine the Eastern European accent “OK, sweetie, now don’t fly away. Did friend give you Cornelia’s name?” I got through the phone call and beads of sweet formed on my forehead for the next two hours. I did make a quick run to Sally’s Beauty Supply to buy some GigGi’s numbing spray. I used half the can before arrival.

I showed up. It’s an odd office in that it is inside an office building, up an elevator and then down a hallway. This is not someone wanting street traffic. She is not even listed in the phone book! But, upon opening the door, me fears were put to ease. A bright and clean office awaited me. And, there is something about an Eastern European accent and a wax job that seemingly go hand in hand. I liked the bit of disconnect an accent puts between two people when the hair down there is about to be yanked out.
So, I could go into the details, but I’ll spare you. There was a lot of “squeeze my hand, love” “I need you bend your leg like this” With the bright lights and total exposure, all pride is eliminated while getting a bikini wax but in the end, it’s simply done. I did have a bit of a rash afterward, but as my skin is completely not used to this treatment, I’ve been told that is normal.
Cornelia’s is a no bells and whistles skincare salon. I like that. She does facials, waxes, sells skincare product. And, you can just feel at ease around her. Honestly, it does hurt, but not enough for me to have even swallowed a cuss word!
