I am just so honored to be a member of the Nashville community. My newest point of pride in our fair city is The Well Coffeehouse where the motto is “we sell coffee. and then we give the money away.”

This building was once a Burger King. What a great facelift!
What? How is this possible? The Well is a non-profit with a strong mission “We exist to support God’s mission of giving a life of freedom and hope to oppressed, underprivileged, and impoverished children, women, and men. This missional effort is focused locally and globally through the giving of financial assistance, food, clothing, and other essentials of life. We do this by selling coffee and coffee products and then taking the profit from those sales and giving it away to those in need.“

The decor at The Well has a great rustic feel.

My daughter and a friend enjoying Red Velvet cupcakes. Love that sliding barn door.

Love the use of these re-purposed coffee sacks as fabric throughout

A comfy spot to eat, drink and read. Check out the re-purposed coffee bags used on the sides of the furniture.
Each time you buy a cup of coffee, beverage, bakery item or some of the merchandise sold at The Well, you are supporting this non-profit’s ability to support other vetted non-profits making positive changes around the world. Currently, proceeds support Blood:Water Mission and Mission Lazarus, both of which are Nashville based charities with missions in Africa and Central America.
Local needs are also being met at The Well. Anyone can go in and fill out a card of need and place it on the Wishing Well Wall. Then, when you (yes, you and me and them and us) can walk in and grab a card from the wall and pledge to help fill that need. I like to think of this as akin to the Angel Trees at Christmas, but responding to year-round requests for assistance. Help locally, spend locally and also support globally. Pretty cool.

For everyone thinking that the rent would be way too high in Green Hills for this little engine that could to survive, please know that the building has been highly subsidized as part of the donations possible to pull off this grand idea.
The employees are not volunteers but are hired knowing that they are working for a non-profit. They are paid the average that baristas are making in throughout Nashville (remember to tip!). I found out that coffee is the second most highly traded commodity in the world, just behind oil. The Well is taking this commodity and providing social change and the ability to empower from a simple cup of jo.

Leather goods made in Honduras and sold at The Well. Proceeds benefit Mission Lazarus. The prices are great. My son has his eye on a leather bound journal that is -get this- $12.

StyleBlueprint has mentioned fashionABLE many times and I was thrilled to see their scarves and jewelry for sale.

Coffee beans from the Mission Lazarus owned coffee estate in Honduras.
The baked goods are amazing, which you would expect as they are made locally at Foxy Baking Co in East Nashville. Look for lunch items to start popping up in the coming weeks.
Oh, and the coffee I ordered was excellent. I should have ordered a latte for a pretty picture, but I was in a straight up coffee mood. Above all, you will return to The Well because the products offered are excellent and the vibe is welcoming with great decor and design. This concept doesn’t work if the experience and the product aren’t great. Rest assured, it is.
Nashville has many local coffee shops and I love supporting them all. The Well is pretty special though. So, if you find yourself in Green Hills and start heading for the big chain store for coffee, ask yourself if you’d rather stop at a locally owned store with a motto: “we sell coffee. and then we give the money away.” If so, head to The Well. Your coffee awaits.

NOTE: A friend texted me on Wednesday July 11, the day The Well opened, to tell me I HAD to check it out. She was so right. Thanks Jennifer! Please email us at [email protected] if there is something you think we need to cover! We love getting ideas!
