We continue our What to Wear feature with these outfits paired with three of Nashville’s most fun events for the month of October. Sometimes it’s hard to know what to wear, and we’re here to navigate these often murky waters. The boutiques featured today are known to offer great items and, in particular, great advice to help you find your perfect outfit.

Events:

Once in a Blue Moon: October 6th, 5:30 p.m.

bm12

“Come celebrate preserving the land we call home at The Land Trust for Tennessee’s Once in a Blue Moon: A Blue Tie Affair presented by Jack Daniels. The 12th annual party will be hosted at The Land Trust for Tennessee’s Glen Leven Farm, 4000 Franklin Pike, Nashville, Tennessee. A high-class event with with down-home style. Polish your boots. Pretty up your fanciest jeans and get ready to celebrate.” – www.landtrusttn.org

Event co-chairs: Daphne Butler, Chandler Harrington and Wendall Lowe

What to Wear: This is a party where you really do wear your jeans and boots! Cords and colored jeans are equally at home, and if you want to throw on some non-boot footwear, that is perfectly fine, too. Just make sure your footwear is comfy; you will be walking on grass the entire evening. The party ends with a huge bonfire, and you pinch yourself that fall has arrived. The party is sold out, but get this event on your calendar for next year if you aren’t going this year! And, if you want to go to the new Late Party (a new addition just this year) tickets are still available and this promises to be fun: click here for details.

Authors in the Round: October 12th, 6:30 pm

2012 SFB Art

This dinner takes place each year on Friday of the Southern Festival of Books weekend at the historic War Memorial Auditorium. “Guests mingle and dine with 40 Festival authors for an evening of literary conversation and celebration of the written word. The evening begins at 6:30 p.m. with cocktails under the stars in the courtyard. For dinner, each table is paired with an author, and each guest at the table receives a copy of the author’s book. The evening concludes with specialty drinks in the courtyard.” – humanitiestennessee.org

Event co-chairs: Beth Fortune and Holly Conner Sharp

What to Wear: This party is a cocktail party with a seated dinner, but it’s not fancy cocktail. Many will come straight from work, so leave the extra sparkles behind. October brings dry, crisp and cool weather, and much of this party takes place under the downtown skies, so bring a wrap if you are easily chilled. This dinner is so fun and the conversations that take place with the abundance of published authors on hand are simply smart and memorable.

Literary Award Gala: October 27, 6:30 pm

Screen Shot 2012 09 20 at 2.16.18 PM

“Each year the Nashville Public Library Literary Award brings an outstanding individual to Nashville to honor his or her achievements, to benefit the library and to promote books, literacy and reading.” This year’s gala is honoring Margaret Atwood. Internationally acclaimed, award-winning author of more than 50 volumes of fiction, non-fiction, children’s literature and poetry, Margaret Atwood is perhaps best known for her novels including The Handmaid’s Tale, Cat’s Eye, and The Blind Assassin, winner of the Booker Prize.” www.nowplayingnashville.com

Event co-chairs: Lucy Haynes and Elizabeth Papel

What to Wear: Going to this event makes you smarter. Well, perhaps not, but the average IQ in the room is certainly higher than most anywhere else in Nashville on this one evening. Avid readers embrace this gala with gusto, but just because the word “gala” is in the name, it’s not all long dresses. Look for some long, some tea length and some shorter, but not too short as the crowd has only a few under 35 year olds in attendance, ensuring a longer hemline. As the gala is honoring Margaret Atwood, you can be sure that her books will be the main subject of conversation, so read up!
