We have solicited the help of some local stylists to help us all figure out what truly is the creme de la creme of fall fashion 2010.  We asked them each to pick their top three looks or items to be on the look out for this fall.

This week, we are highlighting a duo we affectionately call The Closet Girls, Tina Adams and Rebecca Thompson.  To read more about their services, be sure to see their blog here.

Here are their fall picks:

1. A great leather jacket. Leather, not pleather!  Even though the faux ones can be sooo tempting, stick with the real thing and look for well-priced or on sale jackets. We see more ill-fitting and dated leather jackets in people’s closets than anything else, next to shoes.  Leather must be super-fitted when you purchase because it will stretch and that is never a good look!  This half-price one from Nordstrom’s is gorgeous and will work on most body types because it is short, slightly nipped in at the waist, and has flattering 3/4 sleeves.  It doesn’t have all kinds of doo-dads on it that would give it a one season shelf life.  If this jacket is sold out before this post is up, just use it as a guideline or example! You can even carry a jacket like this one into spring, as leather is now a 3 season fabric (see Phoebe Philo for Chloe’s Spring 2010 Collection).  Gap and Banana Republic are also good sources for well-made and well-priced leather.

2.  A brown suede boot. Worried about rain or snow?  Just treat it once or twice a season with an all-weather spray and you’re good to go.  People tend to spend more on boots so have a harder time letting the bad ones go – if your boots have a chunky heel or a big round toe, toss it and get a more classic oval-toe with a narrow heel or wedge for more stability.  Suede is always much richer than calf leather and will wear better over the years because you can brush out the marks and scuffs.  Brown before black because it will go with more things in your closet.  We like stretch suede so you can wear them under pants as well as with skirts – two boots for the price of one!  Again, buy right the first time and it only hurts once – don’t skimp on quality!  If you buy good boots once every 10 years, not only will your feet thank you, but so will your ankles, your knees and your back. Tell Josh at Stuart Weitzman in the Green Hills Mall that we sent you to him and he will take good care of you!

3. A great pair of earrings.  You don’t need tons and tons of jewelry.  Fewer but better is our mantra.  Replace your cheap CZ studs with a high quality pair.  We recommend Landau, a kiosk in the Green Hills Mall across form the Apple store.  The crystals are laser-cut with the same techniques used to cut diamonds, and they won’t turn cloudy in a few month’s time like lesser-quality CZ’s do.
