Fall Fashion Fridays

Today, we have enlisted the help of local stylist Sukey Johnson. She can whip your wardrobe into shape in no time and here are her thoughts on three looks, all keeping a budget in line, for fall 2010.  Isn’t she cute?  She can be reached by email at [email protected] Her picture is by Wiff Harmer:

Now, let’s hear from Sukey:

I found 3 all round great sweaters to love for all occasions. They work with white pants til September, jeans year round, and always with your favorite black or brown pants. Last, but not least, I’ll tell you about a great belt. So many clients ‘forget’ their belt (you know who you are)!

  • First prize for best steal of a deal – Target $24.99 – Cheetah print cardigan. A little trendy, but worth it for the price. This will (or should) match more than a handful of things already in your closet

  • For a slightly higher price point, Ann Taylor $68 Shawl Collar Tunic – and it has cashmere!  This color is called wet clay heather (it looks camel to me). Don’t let the word tunic scare you away. This is a sleeveless pullover that will look sassy in September with your tanned arms, gold jewelry and killer belt. Finally, in November you’ll still get to wear it with the right long sleeve shirt or blouse underneath.  The cowl neckline is a winner for all of us. Love it!

  • This one wins the prize for biggest investment here today: BCBG’s signature cardi-wrap $148-$168 – The beauty of this item is all the color options at different times of the year. I love the camel heather, black, and grey. I got my first one this summer in orange and pink (now marked down!). This piece is very versatile in both occasion and look. There is a video online explaining 12 different ways to wear it, so no excuses! Also, the sales people are very polite and helpful (my experience was at The Mall of Green Hills).

Here are just 4 of the 12 ways to wear the cardiwrap.

  • I said, don’t forget the belt! I found this little beauty while in BCBG. The online picture does not do it justice. You must try it in the store because it’s a home run with the #2 and #3 sweaters adding the perfect bling to finish your outfit. (Remember the tiger print cardigan doesn’t need a lot more bling because…. it’s tiger print!) They call it Leather Belt with Golden Buckle for $58.

  • Ladies, remember a belt doesn’t go in the same spot for everyone. Don’t be afraid to try it high, medium or low, but try it.

…Lastly, as I feel ashamed my summer was too busy and school is already here. Let’s slow it down, lose the watch, and make a little time for yourself. You’re worth it!

  1. I love everything y’all show case on Styleblueprint EXCEPT the ‘cardi wrap’…..that is WAY to much work…and not that cute. But do love the Shawl collar tunic!!!! Sorry to be so abrasive in my comment but so many of my friends expect honest critiques on this blog!

    • While I don’t have the cardi-wrap, I do have something like it….and I LOVE it! Sukey loves hers too, but I know some people don’t like the multiple-function items. I do as I’m one for less items as too many things overwhelm me. But, we always love your comments Terri! It’s not abrasive;we love your honesty; the whole point of the blog is to have a conversation:-). What do think of that Donna Karen dress for $1200 that can be worn 7 different ways? Have you seen that? I’ve had several people email me to tell me they love it. I can’t see plopping the $ down, but apparently some people are!

      • I was thinking after I left my comment that maybe I would have liked the cardi-wrap better if I had seen it modeled by you or Elizabeth….I feel less intimidated by a number of things y’all showcase when you personalize them…. you two make them seem more ‘do-able’……what can I say…y’all spoil us!

    • I agree the cardi-wrap looks like too much work for me. I do love the idea of a multi-function sweater though. I ordered a Vince cardigan in gray that can be worn two diferent ways. I haven’t recieved it yet, so we’ll see how it turns out. I adore the BCBG belt and the sweater tunic!

    • Well I have to say that I love all of these sweaters, especially the cardiwrap! It appeals to all sides of my personality- elegant, versatile, whimsical and frugalicious. What could be better!?!?! I have several wraps that can be worn different ways. They always look a ton more complicated than they actually are- Possibly what makes them so fabulous! I encourage everyone to give it a go!

  2. I have been looking at the cardigan wrap since I saw a friend of mine wearing it. After seeing all the different ways you can wear it, I can’t wait to have this fun piece to have in my closet.
    Love all you suggestions

  3. Ladies, Honesty is the best policy! Good point about the cardi looking like a pain- BUT, with a belt it helps hold it in place. Trust me with 2 little boys running circles around me, I need low maintenance, and this one just needs to be tried on to see how easy it is. Once I saw it went frontwards and tied in the back, and reversed, tied in the front- I was sold. Grab one from summer for 50% off in a more subtle color that matches more in your closet. I also need to plug the Target sweater. Don’t forget football season is coming and how many people out there have a tiger mascot?? This sweater is perfect for football weather or a girls night out. Good luck and thanks for all the comments!

  4. Sukey! You are brilliant. I LOVE your cleverness of offering 3 pieces at 3 price points. I’d like to own all 3 . . . especially the wrap. It will be perfect for travel! Thank you for sharing these great ideas.

  5. Thank you for the pep talk! I love the Target sweater…Oh, I even have it already!! How could I not go right out and buy it!
The cardiwrap is next for me. I am going bold:RED!! Is it too soon to be thinking about Christmas ??? Maybe it is too early, but I am planning ahead…RED it is!!!
Love all your ideas!! My closet needs a visit from you and so does my husband’s!! Can’t wait to learn more good ideas about updating my wardrobe.

  6. You are a whiz kid with the clothes, I must say. I’m getting at least two out of these. This is my perfect way to update for the fall! What awesome ideas. Love em all! Can you come work on my wardrobe?

  7. Love them all! Great choices for fall!

  8. I lived in my cardi wrap this past Winter and Fall season. I mainly wore it tied in the front. So perfect for dinners out with husband and friends and for a quick sweater to put on with my two boys when heading out the door. It looks awesome with jeans and a little white tank underneath and a fun colorful necklace. I went with grey for my first one but plan to get something with a little color this fall. Thanks Sukey for sharing. I really need to get the Ann Taylor Collar Tunic.. this one is way up my alley.

  9. What great ideas at really affordable prices! You gongirl!
